Life is too short to be fretting about broken bikes

It started with a trip to the Pyrenees. Our founder and his teammates were wrestling bikes into flimsy plastic boxes and soft bags, doubting whether their pride and joy would survive the baggage hold. Nobody was happy with what was available. Nobody trusted what they'd bought.

So rather than keep complaining about it, it was clear it was time to build something better. No mental gymnastics, no foam origami, no tearful negotiations with cable ties. Our boxes were made to be tough and and easy to live with, packing/unpacking in a maximum of ten minutes. That's a design fundamental, not a marketing claim.

Since 2014, we've been making premium aluminium bike boxes in our Okehampton, Devon workshop the way we thought they should be made - properly, by craftspeople, without compromising on quality. We haven't stopped since.

Today, every Buxumbox takes around four hours to build and somewhere between 700 and 800 rivets to hold together the aerospace-grade aluminium panels and extrusions. That's not incidental. It's a deliberate choice to build something with the kind of substance that a serious bike deserves. We could have outsourced production. We chose not to. We prototype, design, and make everything here, in Devon, because that's the only way we can guarantee it's done right.

We're never on sale. Not because we're precious about it, but because we don't build that margin in. The price is the price: fair, considered, and reflective of what it actually costs to make something in the UK that lasts a cycling lifetime. We realise they're not everyday buys, but they hold their value.

Crafted from aluminium
6061 aluminium: strong, light, and 100% recyclable. It'll dent before it shatters - which is exactly the point. A dented box is a box that did its job. Plastic cracks. Carbon splinters. Aluminium takes a knock and keeps going.

Right to repair
If a panel gets damaged, we can fix it. No proprietary systems, no write-off after one bad baggage handler. Each box carries its own serial number and we stand behind them for the long haul.
